While drug rehab should not be considered a vacation, it can be an effective way to get away from your current problems and way of life. At Sunshine Behavioral Health we believe in offering all styles of addiction treatment to better serve our patients.

We understand that no two people’s addiction stories are alike, so why should we expect their treatment plans to be? In order to do this effectively, we strive to make sure our centers are staffed with experts in any form of addiction treatment. From our holistic therapists to our spiritual counselors, we strive to find dedicated employees in all facets of substance abuse treatment. For those who have never been to rehab, understanding the differences in treatment can be difficult, which is why we are here to help you make sense of it all. In order to have a long-lasting recovery, it is best to be informed of all of your options and make your choice from there. For more information on our treatment programs, you can call us any time of the day.

Choosing an Addiction Treatment Program

In order to select the best treatment program for you or your loved one, you must know what truly interests you or the person you are here for. Some people respond to different treatment methods in different ways. For example, someone who has a strong belief in religion may find our faith-based program to be something that resonates with them. In that same vein, someone who is not religious may not find the Christian addiction treatment program to be of any use or even the 12 step method. The 12 steps are not rooted in religion, however, there are many mentions of a Higher Power in the 12 steps. Another example of a particular treatment is our dual diagnosis program which focuses on both mental health and addiction. A person with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, or PTSD along with substance abuse may find this program to be extremely helpful. The treatment that you prefer can be found all in one spot here at Sunshine Behavioral Health.

Holistic Drug Rehab

Our most popular approach to addiction treatment is our holistic drug rehab program. Our holistic program introduces therapies that patients can take with them after treatment to produce a lifetime of health and recovery. Many holistic therapists that we have working at our centers come to visit patients multiple times a week to teach them the benefits of holistic therapy.

12 Step Addiction Treatment

The 12 steps have been around since the early 1900s. They were originally designed to help alcoholics stay sober. Over time the program has caught on and has been adapted by other organizations like Narcotics Anonymous. The principles are the same. Work the steps to better your life and live a healthy life. By participating in the steps and attending 12 step support group meetings your desire to use drugs or alcohol will go away. Our 12 step program introduces people to the program and the steps and helps them become familiar with 12 step support groups. The 12 steps are not for everybody, which is why we offer more than just this treatment style.

  1. Realizing that one is powerless over alcohol—that their lives had become unmanageable.
  2. Developing a  belief that power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
  3. Making a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understand him.
  4. Analyzing their own self and realizing how addiction has changed their life.
  5. Admitting to yourself, to someone else, and to a higher power, the wrongs that you have committed and the impact that they have had.
  6. Being ready for a higher power to remove these defects.
  7. Humbly asked the higher power to remove your shortcomings.
  8. Making a list of all persons we had harmed due to addiction and became willing to make amends to them all.
  9. Making direct amends with people wherever possible, except when doing so would injure them or others.
  10. Continue to take personal inventory and when promptly admitting when mistakes are made.
  11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understand Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
  12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, try to carry this message to alcoholics and practice these principles in all of your affairs.

SMART Recovery Program

SMART Recovery stands for Self Management and Recovery Training. The idea came to form as many people wanted a structured approach to treatment but did not want the 12 steps in their recovery. Our SMART Recovery Program is offered as a way to introduce our patients to the program and to show them the power of self-empowerment.

SMART Recovery uses a 4 point approach which is as follows:

  1. Building and Maintaining Motivation (to stay sober)
  2. Coping with Urges
  3. Managing Thoughts Feelings and Behaviors
  4. Living a Balanced Life.

The goal of SMART Recovery is to use logic and reasoning and put the person in charge of their recovery. You can have a life without relapses and you do not have to work the steps or look up to a Higher Power to help you. In SMART Recovery, you are empowered and held accountable for your actions. SMART Recovery also offers support group meetings for patients to attend after leaving treatment and being introduced to the program.

Dual Diagnosis Addiction Treatment

For those who are struggling with a mental illness and a substance abuse problem, dual diagnosis treatment is the best option. This form of treatment helps the patient make sense of both the addiction and their mental health problem. Oftentimes people do not see how the two work hand-in-hand. For example, someone who has anxiety could start off taking a medication like Xanax and wind up addicted to the drug’s powerful effects. In other cases, someone who struggles with depression could drink alcohol to get rid of the symptoms of depression, but they are making the depression worse. When you enroll in a dual diagnosis treatment program you will be assessed by certified psychologists and be able to meet with licensed therapists to begin working on both issues. Dual diagnosis treatment centers also work to find the proper resources for their patients upon leaving the facility, as a form of aftercare.

Common mental health disorders treated in our dual diagnosis program are:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Bi-Polar Disorder
  • PTSD

Addiction Treatment and Education

Treatment styles are just the theme of your program that you will be entered in. The best addiction treatment centers use these styles in conjunction with standard addiction education and cognitive behavioral therapy. We have a team of therapists and addiction counselors who will work on deep seeded issues with our patients to get to the root causes of their addictions. For many, the ideas of how addiction works and why they want drugs make no sense, until after rehab. When you go to rehab you will have a better understanding of what was leading you to use drugs.

The following are courses our patients participate in regularly

  • Gratitude
  • Group Therapy
  • Self-Esteem Education
  • Trauma Education and Therapy
  • Family Systems
  • Guided Meditation
  • Mindfulness Education
  • Life Skills
  • Goal Setting
  • Coping Skills
  • Dual Disorders Group
  • Psycho-Drama and Psycho-Education
  • Communication Skills
  • Experiential Therapy
  • Social Skills
  • Relapse Prevention

Insurance and Addiction Treatment

If you have insurance coverage, you will need to check for the exact coverage you have. For example, you may be covered for a portion of the costs, or for a certain length of stay. You can do that by contacting your insurance company directly or by allowing us to do that for you. Information from your insurance company will clarify what they will pay and under what conditions. This does not mean that you can choose any program and expect your insurance to pay, however. The next step is to find a program that accepts your insurance policy.
